violence against women, rape Human rights
"Violence is perhaps the most violent human rights violation and perhaps the most widespread. Knows no geographical boundaries, cultural or economic. As long as we can not say we are making real progress towards equality, development and peace. " - Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations.
According to the United Nations, every 18 seconds a woman is battered in the world and one in five is a victim of violence in their own homes, as revealed by the World Health Organization (WHO). Being in the XXI century, in all countries, men and women do not find the same opportunities or status. This inequality is often the main "stumbling block" that is the eradication of gender violence and therefore violence against women.
In 1981, the UN and showed signs of alarm and warned that "discrimination against women violates the principles of equal rights and respect for human dignity" in the Beijing Declaration (1993) was described violence gender as an important "human rights violation."
There are many women who are assaulted every day, physically or psychologically, in the privacy of your home should be a safe buffer zone, which is now very far from reality. But if we go even beyond the domestic sphere, we find the attacks and violence against women just for the fact of being.
When thinking or trying to identify the causes of why there is this violent environment enclosing the woman, experts have different opinions and dumping that has taken hold has been: the inequality between men and women, a world that is still predominantly male. This "machismo", the cultural stereotype and social, is not easily eradicated, therefore they are inherited from a traditional model that is imposed from a patriarchal model, man is strong, while the woman is related to the submission.
Until relatively recently, has not been easy to reach the level of awareness on the rights of women that exists today. Before the problem of couples and violence, was a matter of doors was closed only at home and no one else could intrude. Today, much of society has become aware of the issue of violence, making us understand that to eradicate it, we need not look elsewhere, but address the root problem.

There are many more preventive measures and assistance to many countries covered by its laws to stop violence against women. Change is possible, report the abuse from the first moment you see the warning signs is a good start. The regional, national and world created by women's groups are growing in strength and impact to support other women to free themselves from the chains of violence. These networks have inspired a wide range of campaigns that have made this issue the focus of world attention.
The issue of violence against women, is present among us, we allow and support to failing to report and not taking the necessary steps to prevent it. The most important part of awareness, is to take action and know that these acts are condemned as violations against the rights of a human being like you, like me, eradicate, remains under the responsibility of everyone.
